Red Velvet Cake
Ingredients:
1/2 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
2 oz. red food coloring
1 tsp. vinegar
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/2 c. flour
2 Tbs. cocoa
1 tsp. salt
1/2 c. shortening

Directions:
Cream shortening and sugar, add eggs coloring (flour, salt and cocoa to be added alternately with the buttermilk).Beat after each addition at medium speed. Add vanilla and mix. Add vinegar and soda and mix thoroughly. Bake at 350 for 25 to 30 min.
Whipped Cream Frosting (compliments Red Velvet Cake)
4 Tbs.flour
1 c. milk
1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
2 tsp. vanilla
Mix flour and milk in saucepan. Cook over low flame until thick. Place in refrigerator to cool. Cream butter and shortening for 4 min. Add sugar gradually and beat 4 min. Add flour paste and beat 4 min. more. Add vanilla and blend.
