Swiss Bratwurst Melt
Ingredients:
2 Tbs. butter
4 tsp. flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. dry mustard
3/4 c. milk
3/4 c. shredded Swiss cheese
1 (8 oz.) can sauerkraut
4 large slices pumpernickel bread, toasted
4 slices tomato
Green pepper rings
2 Tbs. butter
4 tsp. flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. dry mustard
3/4 c. milk
3/4 c. shredded Swiss cheese
1 (8 oz.) can sauerkraut
4 large slices pumpernickel bread, toasted
4 slices tomato
Green pepper rings
Directions:
Melt butter in a small saucepan. Stir in flour, salt and dry mustard; add milk. Cook and stir until thickened and bubbly. Stir in cheese till melted; cover and keep warm. Heat sauerkraut in small pan. Meanwhile, halve bratwurst lengthwise; place, cut side down, on broiler pan or baking sheet. Broil 3 to 5" from heat for 3 minutes. Drain sauerkraut. For each sandwich place 2 bratwurst halves on a bread slice. Top with a fourth of the hot sauerkraut and 1 tomato slice; spoon a fourth of the cheese sauce over. Garnish with green pepper ring.
