Walnut Applesauce Cake
Ingredients:
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1 egg
2 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. cloves
1 c. thick applesauce
3/4 c. chopped walnuts
1/2 c. shortening

Directions:
Heat oven to 350 degrees. Line bottoms of two 8" layer cake pans with brown paper. Cream shortening with sugar. Add egg and beat thoroughly. Sift together flour, salt, soda and spices. Add to creamed mixture alternately with applesauce. Stir in walnuts. Spread in pans. Bake 30 to 35 minutes or till cake tests done. Cool 5 minutes, then turn out on wire rack. Frost if desired.
